Photo Diary: Chelsea Flower Markets, New Yorkfeatured
When my alarm went off at 5am I got a rude shock to the system. However I opened my curtain to see the sun rising up on the skyscrapers of New York which gave me an instant rush of flower excitement.
The markets here start at 5:30 am and I was a little nervous jumping on the train so early but it was pretty crowded with all those early starters, the tradesmen of the city which was an experience in itself seeing them snoozing the whole way in.
The flower markets are on W28th Street just off 7th Ave. They run along the street like a strip of shops with cartons of blooms packed to the curbside.
There were so many beautiful early Spring blooms from Lemon Peonies to Dogwood to some varieties I had never seen before. The only thing I must admit was they were pretty expensive but mainly because they were sold in massive bundles for the florists and the market is no where near as competitive as Sydney so they can probably get away with it (the lemon peonies were $5.50 per stem!). I so badly wanted to buy the bundle but had to restrain myself.
Definitely worth the visit though if you love flowers, they start at 5:30am and go until around 11am. I also picked up a beautiful leather tool belt shears case there for $14 which was totally worth it.
